The mg sets on the ships I was on had seperate commutators for the voltages 
required; plate and screen for the 861, plate for the 860 and filaments. 
Dont rember how they developed bias. Another smaller mg ran the speech 
amp/grid modulator.

I got a nice bite off a mg by barely moving it.
