My parents had a big RCA VICTOR console radio in the late '30's. It had 
mostly metal tubes,
about 15 metal tubes and a couple of glass tubes, rectifiers.

I remember hearing the announcement during Sunday Dinner (lunch) on Dec 7, 
1941, that Japan had bombed Pearl Harbor.
My father said, " Oh my God, that means war for sure."

I sure wish I had that radio today.
