[Boatanchors] Need help IDing Mil Surplus stuff...FR4-U freq meter modules...

Guys,

I have some modules out of a FR4-U freq meter. I am wondering about a 
couple of them if I should take them apart for the parts or if they are 
usable as is. I don't have a schematic of the freq meter so I don't know 
what I have here. Pic links below:

This looks like a VFO possibly. What's the mystery black box? Super nice 
drive for the cap. Real smooth and has a neat dial/scale. BNC output 
signal jack I presume? Future QRP rig in one box? The aluminum box is 
anodized gold, very nice and looks RF tight. All stainless hardware.

Here's another VFO maybe? Big multi air variable and neat drive mechanism.

Just don't want to take something apart and find out later that I had 
something that I should have been using as is. Covers were removed for 
pics, nothing damaged. Dirty as could be but easy to clean up as needed.
