I made my last 11M ham QSO using a Viking I on 9/10/58 if I remember
correctly. The next day I used the same rig to make similar QSO's using
2W1649. Lots of hams operated for a good 6 months or so with VFO's and much
more than 5W as a protest. 11M was very active as a mobile commuters band,
in the NYC/LI area where I grew up, that didnt have to compete with the high
power stations on 10M.
CB started on 9/11 which can be recorded as another day of infamy.
