[Boatanchors] Transformer for Globe Scout 65

Hi Joe,
In those days, power was spec'd as watts input, not output. So 50 to 60
watts would have been the CW input and 50 watts would have been the
modulated output if all was well. Even so, the power out should be somewhat
higher as should the plate current. I would expect to see with 50 ma plate
current and let's say 900 VDC, that that is about 45 watts input, then at
60% efficiency, that would be 27 watts output.
I don't think that 1000 VAC is at all low rather a bit high perhaps but it
is the DC under load that is an important number. If it is a capacitor input
filter on the power supply as I think it was, then .9 RMS should be about
what one might expect for a DC voltage, and perhaps a bit less under load
depending on the quality of the caps. I might also suspect the driver or the
6146 as being aged.
In summary, I'm not sure there is much of a problem other than what I
mentioned above.

Subject: [Boatanchors] Transformer for Globe Scout 65
I have a friend whoe has a Globe Scout 65. He and I have been disciussing
something that seems to be a problem. The Globe scout that he has he bought
from someone else. The transformer was changed as the original one went
south . Another was installed. The one that is in there developes about
1000 volts ac across it . When the rig is tuned up into a 50 ohm load he
can only draw bout 50mils of plate current and only put out about 25 watts.
The book he has says he should get around 50/60 watts out . I suggested
that maybe the trans former that was replaced was wrong one voltage wise and
maybe needed to be a bit larger one. Does anyone out there have any info
that can help in this cituation. Just the tranformer specs would be good
as the book that came with the thing did not really say anything about the
tranformer output. Thanks for any help you can give
