Gentlemen...May I quote Jay Millers Pocket Guide to Collins Radio:

That is a straight quote and no ref is made about another IF...

Keith -

I believe the additional IF stage is part of the conversion kit along 
with the filters.  I can't find a reference for the kit, but I seem to 
recall that there is an additional stage on the "can" that supports the 
filters and switch.
