Hi Bill,
    It sounds to me like there's a good possibility that you've got a poor 
connection on the display board.  Try, carefully, just pressing down on teh 
areas of the board that have connectors, seems like a good candidate has 
been the left rear corner.  if it's down tight, try lifting it a slight bit 
and re-pressing down.  You might jar things back OK.  Or, you might need to 
remove the board, and use De-Oxit on all pins.  Be very careful removing the 
board, do not move the several thumbwheel pots on the rt front area below 
the board, they set voltages, and must be very precise.  It's also possible 
that there's a cracked solder connection between a connector pin and the 
board.
    I'm sure someone with a much better memory, or more recent experience 
will tell you the functions of each area and each pot, but this is the 
basics, and I've been there several times.
