Gang -
I am looking for a few Eby 5 or 6-pin tube sockets (6-pin preferred).
These are surface mount sockets, popular in the 30's and 40's, and
intended for "breadboard" type sets. Black Bakelite with a raised
base, with the connection tabs extending radially from slots at the
bottom of the socket. These would fit tube bases like the ones used on
the 5-pin 807 or the 6-pin 6D6. If any of you out there have any of
these that you might consider selling (or trading, see below), please
contact me off list.
I am going to be working with some kids to build a few 1930's style
regenerative receivers. I have all the rest of the parts, including the
necessary tubes, plug-in coil forms, dial drives, and so on. The Eby
style sockets are the ones featured in the Alfred Morgan "Boy
Electrician" book , and were used in the 1G4 regenerative receiver
presented therein. In fact, that basic receiver design is what the kids
will be building - that plus an additional 1A5 as an audio stage. The 5
or 6-pin sockets are needed to fit the coil forms.
I need about 12 sockets total - all one size or assorted, although even
three or four would get us started. I don't need to get them all from
all from one place either, one or two at a time works too.
I have a few extra of the Eby octal tube sockets, which I might consider
as trades for the 5 or 6-pin variety, also some 140 pF Hammarlund
MC-140M variable caps, and a few 1930's/1940's receiving tubes (ask for
list).
Any help here would be appreciated.
