It can certainly be done as I've seen it in commercial gear. Get a generously sized relay and select a type that switches off at zero current. Since the switch off current
will not be quite zero, you may need a series RC network across the transformer primary as a transient snubber.

Do NOT use the SS relay as the only shutoff when you are working on the unit !!
