[Boatanchors] Hallicrafters SX-28 S-meter

Hi All,

I have a Hallicrafters SX-28 whose S meter housing has split open, looking 
like the staves on a barrel.  Evidently the brass was not annealed 
sufficiently at manufacture and internal stresses took over.

The meter is still functional.

I'm considering making a "band" of thin metal with tabs to insert screws to 
clamp it closed around the meter housing. I would paint to match (flat 
black) the meter housing and position the clamp portion underneath where it 
would be less visible.

I have an assortment of miscellaneous meters but none have a housing to 
match that of the SX-28.

Does anyone know of a better repair/replacement scheme?
