Indeed my latest deal was a Drake TR-7 & PS-7 for $50 that was headed
for a dumpster! I friend thought of me prior to tossing it, however not
before throwing in some other "big heavy stuff with tubes!" I was
upfront on what the high end was for TR-7 in good condition. This one
was about a filthy of a radio as I had ever seen. It did clean up nice
and a transmitter problem was easily fixed.
I made no attempt at trying to find out what the "big heavy stuff with
tubes" was. I just didn't want to here him say something like Collins,
Henry etc..
It might pay to show a picture of your shack to co-workers and friends,
letting them know that you value this "old" stuff.
To be sure, I have in the past been guilty of not recognizing a BA.
About 5 years ago Dave, W1DWZ and I were riding along and he yelled
stop. On the side of the road were 3 ARC 5's in the trash. I had passed
them at least 3 times and never took note! I know that one of them was
put right on the air by his brother Norm, W1CIX!
