This has been debated endlessly on the R-390 reflector and has nothing to do
with newbies, lids or anything else but simple identification.
Unlike KWM's, 32S-3's, etc. there are significant electrical differences
between R-390's and the "A" model. ( a completely different IF strip for
one)
It is easy to miss the a in a text message so "non A" is used to highlight
the radio under discussion.
Thats all there is to it.......
