Hi all,
What John has said about "what is ham radio"? is very much of a "problem"
for me. Being the curator of The Wireless Shack at a Museum the line between
all the various "BRANCHES" of "RADIO" becomes very Muddied some times with
Antique (1920's) radio,Antique Ham Radio, ham radio ,SWL radio ,CB radio,
both HF & uhf, marine radio, wireless Microphones, Radio test Equipment,
Wireless Broadband , remote car door locks etc, topped off with a 1930's
10Kw water cooled commercial transmitter, all competing for space in the
Museum. Could our 1950's dental X-ray machine be classified as a radio as it
does transmit information from point A to point B? .Is a Geiger Counter a
receiver (it does receive (Radio ?) waves. The other day I came across a
wrist watch that has a inbuilt SW receiver that goes to WWV about once a
month to Synchronise its time base with WWV , the perfect on time watch. No
more telling the Mrs. that your watch must be showing the wrong time when
you turn up late for your evening meal.
Where is Radio going in the future ????!!!!!!. That Maxwell, Marconi ,
Tesla, etc have a lot to answer for.
73's all and keep the glow glowing
Mick Brisbane Australia.
