[Boatanchors] Swan / Drake?

As a kid first licensed as a Novice in '62, I got to lust after all these
rigs. I always thought the Drake gear was head an shoulders above much of
the other gear of its time...in terms of operating performance and bang for
the buck. I got to operate a few Swan & Drake rigs either in stores
(Lafayette Radio) or in hamshacks of people I knew. I thought the Swan's
were OK (they looked real cool and often had higher RF output) but I also
thought the Drakes had way superior receivers. Seemed to me that while Swan
made plenty of rigs for the amateur community, they also crossed the
marketing border into CB.
By my late teens I had a Drake 2B which I loved...early passband tuning
worked great, also the 2BQ speaker/multiplier could really slice out QRM.
Later I owned a Drake TR7 & R7 station and loved that gear too. Never did
own the Drake 4-line, which Drake is probably most famous for.
I don't believe the two companies were ever linked or shared designs,
although there were periods when trade names of US made radios had certain
themes (Thudnerbolt, Viking, Invader, Navigator, Warrior, Swan, Drake, etc.,
etc.) to help get the testosterone flowing, not to mention motivate the
buyers to spend those greenbacks!

Subject: [Boatanchors] Swan / Drake?
Hi Guys,
I have often wondered if there is any connection between Swan (eg350) and
Drake eg R-4C . The general style of the two front panels look very simular
as do the bird names Swan & Drake. Are these two companies in any way
interconnected maybe the same graphic designer or is there more to it than
just simular front panels.
Thanks guys for any help.
