[Boatanchors] BC 348 - Modifications are bad

The majority of the surplus "conversion" manuals and handbooks were written
over half a century ago, when there were tens of thousands of the radios
around, and no one thought there would ever be any less. The majority of the
modifications were poorly thought-out and given that the whole system was available,
not just the bare radio, mostly unnecessary. The equipment as-modified
generally performed more poorly than it had before, and the average modification
was poorly implemented anyway. I've seen thousands of the incompetent butcher
jobs in my 46 years of playing with US military sets. My storage building is
full of them. That's where about half of the restoration parts I supply come
from.
Anyway, it's your radio. You do whatever you want to it. When you get
finished, it will be worth far less than when you started.
