[Boatanchors] Potentiometer

Hi Joe,

You will need a wire wound as the regular carbon units are not
sufficient to withstand the power dissipated in this circuit. I thought
I found a source at Digikey but looking closely at the specs for the
Digikey unit shows that the actual wattage rating in use (under normal
ambient temperature ratings) is only about 1 watt instead of the 4 watt
rating advertised.

I managed to find a NOS replacement for my Viking 500 but the next time
one goes out in one of my Johnson or Heathkit rigs I think I will
replace it with a circuit like the one in this link:
http://www.amwindow.org/tech/htm/drivepot.htm I think that this idea
also was published in Electric Radio.
