Ed,
Most of the older Johnson Rigs covered 160 (V1,V2, Ranger 1 and 2, Valiant 1
and 2) and the Heath DX-100 series are also commonly found. Most of the
WRL/Globe rigs also covered 160 and I think the Globe King is one of the few
high powered AM rigs that was built with 160 coverage since rigs like the
Johnson Desk and 500, Collins KW-1 etc. do not have 160 coverage. At the
time, the LORAN required power restrictions combined with the expense of
coils and transmitting capacitors for high power coverage of 160 made it
logical to leave out of high power rigs. I considered adding 160 to my Desk
KW but I decided I prefer it as it left the factory and when I add a Viking
500 to the collection it will also remain unmodified.
