I'm not familiar with the RA-1 but know the RA-10 well. Some of these DF
sets use a S meter separate from the control box. This applies to the
RA-10 and MN-26. The S meter is used with a steerable loop and azimuth
indicator. There is a DFing procedure t resolve the 180 degree null
ambiguity.
You might want to take a look at the Radio Aids to Navigation section on
the oyalSignals.org.uk site.

Hi All,
Just acquired a working Bendix RA-1 RX. Looking through the manual I got
from BAMA I don't see any display unit for D/F purposes, so what sort of
unit did this RX connect too? As there's no S meter I can't see how the
thing could be used with a loop for accurately detecting a null or peak
in
the beacon signal.
My RA-1 is ex-British Air Ministry and has had the six pin power socket
PL3
replaced (neatly) by a Plessey socket, anyone have a plug/socket pair
they'd
like to sell or trade?Could also do with a plug to match the 8 pin
(right
hand) socket.
