Hi Hank:
Permit me this occasion to say a few words in public.
The antenna that I getting for manufacture - named TAK-tenna - will be made
available with a mast mount suitable for its intended use:
Roof mount
Tripod mount - patio, porch roof, portable etc.
Interior setup - attic
Shack partner - right alongside your operating station chair ( it drove my
meter pointers nuts from the barefoot RF...but the inline Bird unit was all I
needed and it worked fine.)
It is NOT intended for tower installation...that version will have to wait a
bit.
TAK-tenna weigh approx 10 to 15 pounds.
The 40 meter/20 meter ( it tuned up with very little loading from my Pi tuner
) model has a boom 30 inches long and has end elements 30 inches in diameter.
It incorporates a wire having the proper electromagnetic properties in the
E-H field given the proper geometry; its named Takalloy *TM - TAK-tenna.
My prototypes have shown the following performance during QSO's using my
706Mk2G for equipment:
1. SWR 1:1 at resonance using 1/2 electrical wavelength 50 ohm coax directly
to the 706;
2. Bandwidth at 3:1 SWR is between 180 to 200 Kc;
3. During my operation on the OMISS net on 20 meters, I had QSO's across the
United States while TAK-tenna was tripod mounted alongside my shack chair -
second story residence;
4. During my operation on the OMISS net on 40 meters, I had QSO's across the
United States while the antenna was on my patio porch roof @ 15 feet above
ground;
5. On January 5, 2007 I was in QSO with KB3LYA, Mac in the Pittsburgh, PA
area...my QTH is Fair Haven, NJ....say 350 miles away. Mac was most generous
with his time and allowed me to make a few tests. He reported that my TAK-tenna
was about 2 S-units stronger than my 130 foot dipole using the Pi tuner..and
5 9+;
I am finalizing materials & suppliers approval...and busting my butt trying
to keep the selling price within reason.
My first production will be only 50 units...as I need to make sure every part
from every supplier fits properly together...what a nice surprise if it does!
Also, there will be 'bugs' to take care of...this is a startup
operation...the operator being yours truly.
Personally, I am applying all the experience I have from 25 years in Original
Equipment Manufacturing...starting out as a project engineer when I was a
young guy ( I'll be 60 on Jan. 22nd )...Regional Director for a NASA affiliate
promoting Technology Transfer...Director of New Business Development for a
specialty WIRE company and codeveloped the wire used to make the voice coil that is
the heart of the motor in Seagate Technology's hard disk drive...( for which
I had to teach the Chinese engineers in Shenzhen, China how to make it as
there was, most sadly, no US company that could.)
Always like doing Ham things with my hands...just went from rigs to antennas.
Lastly, I am standing on the shoulders of those who have preceded me...just
like they did.
Anyone wishing to be put on the list for possible purchase, please come now.
And a big Thank You to you have dealt with my confusion during these
sessions...
Kind regards,
Stephen Tetorka
