If you are making mast climbing saddles you had better not get cheap on 
the hardware. Especially if you are planing on selling them.
Heavy duty clamps with angle welded to them work fine.
A Crane is much safer and yes I know it cost more. Is your XYL in a 
position to care for a paraplegic the rest of your life or worse yet to 
become the widow of a frugal ham(SK)
