Take a look at the clock crystals from places like
Mouser ( http://www.mouser.com ). They are well under
$1 and there are several that end in even MHz.
Although these are smaller in size than HC6/U, they
are available with wire leads that can be either bent
to fit the HC6/U sockets or else soldered to old HC6/U
bases.
I use them all the time in tube type VHF converters
like those made by Ameco and they work great. The
reason that they are so cheap is that thousands are
made at any one time.

I am interested in any crystals between 6.5 mcs and
21.5 mcs ending in either .000 or .500. So 6.500
7.000 7.500 8.000 and so one up to 21.500 would be of
interest. Let me know what you have in ye olde junque
box.
