[Boatanchors] Siemens E 311?

Eugene,

I have a Siemens E305, E309, E310 and an E311.
The bandswitching on the E311 is butter-smooth... The dial mask is similar
to the way the BC-348 and BC-312 is done, but the switching is even lighter
in feel than a smooth BC-348.

The dial itself is a combination of an analog dial and a mechanical-digital
one, like in the R-390 family.
In AM the reception is actually single-side band with the carrier, because
the IF filters either set at LSB or USB, but not both, even when the mode
switch is on AM.
It's a great receiver!

Subject: [Boatanchors] Siemens E 311?

Hello all,

I read Sandy, W5TVW's post on his Siemens E410 and decided I'd google to
learn more about that radio. While googling, I saw an earlier model called
the E311. Well, I instantly fell in love with its looks!

Does anyone have any experience using this radio? From some of the German
descriptions it seems to be well liked (of course, that could be google
doing a bad translation into English for all I know!)

I've been looking to replace my 51J4 with a ham-band only receiver to reduce
the fatigue on the ol' wrist. I know this E311 is general coverage, but it
just might be easier to switch bands (less torque?)

And are these rarer than hens teeth, or can they be found?

Anyone have an opinion? Any of our European brothers on the list?
Thanks
Eugene
