I found $497 in my NC-300. I still have the NC-300 and some of the money. It wasn't a single wad of bills stashed in there. Each bill was rolled up or folded, and then slid down into that space between the cabinet and chassis. Both sides were lined. As I pulled the chassis out of the cabinet, money was spilling out on the floor. All of the bills, $1's, $5's, $10's, $20's, were dated 1968 or earlier. I'm guessing the original owner was using it as a piggy bank for his next big radio purchase.
A fellow at work asked me if I was still into that ham radio stuff. He was cleaning out his basement and had a ham radio setup that was given to him 10 years earlier. It was given to him by a buddy of his who picked it up at an estate sale. I asked what kind of radio. He said he didn't know and he wasn't going find out. It would be in his trunk the next day at noon in the parking lot. If I wanted it, be there. If not, he would dump it in the company trash bin on the way home from work. I was there. It was a Heath Apache and an NC-300.. with a secret..
