   Thanks all for the pointers. A couple of you hit the problem dead on.
                           Ok, I have a red face!
   I went by the color of the leads of the old caps, C93, but as I looked
    over my work and was getting set up to check the socket voltages, I
                     decided to review the schematics.
   I did a few double takes and couldn't believe what I was reading. Are
    these schematics right I wondered? Study a bit more, considered the
   circuit, and the light bulb went off... C93 WAS backwards. Dang I was
                      lucky those didn't make a bang!
    Lesson: don't trust old wire color.Verify by the schematics! I feel
         sorry for the many new hams that can not read schematics.
             On the air I go with a good start to the new year.
