Thanks very much for the reply and info.

I do understand the need to compress or expand the turns on the coils for 
proper tracking, but the compression in this case is to the point where the 
turns are shorted together!

I thought that a pix of the coils in question would give me a starting point 
so I could get my coils close to what they should be.
However, I guess I could do it the "hard way" by using my GDO to set the 
inductance starting point and the do the compress/expand thingy to bring 
them into alignment.

Next question is how do I tell what the inductance should be?

Any further help and/or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
