Jerry and his wife were both hams.  When I got my general ticket in 
February of 1962 he was in the New Orleans office and administered the exam.

While I was not concerned about the CW sending test.. I was concerned 
about the receiving side so I was chugging along sending with the 
straight key when I heard Jerry in my headphones say "you better pick it 
up son".. I almost had carpal tunnel syndrome when I finished.

I did ok on the receiving side also.

He and his wife both had W5 calls and I talked to him quite often when I 
lived in Hattiesburg, MS.  He also checked in to Norm Fehan's (W5JHS) 
Gulf Coast Side Band net from time to time.

I have both of the W5 qsl cards somewhere and will try to find them.
