I will offer a challenge:
If there is anybody out there with a SP-600JX-17 that has a T-35 that is NOT 
broken, speak up!

Unfortunately, to tell for sure, you have to open up the FCU. Another way to 
tell indirectly is to measure the RMS voltage coming out of the SO-239 on 
the back on the FCU. If it is much less than about .5 volts (RMS), then it 
is broken.

When I pick up a JX-17 and notice that it rattles, I know exactly where the 
rattle comes from . . .
