Hi Greg,

Sounds like you may have incorrect or no bias on the 807s. Hopefully, this
will help:

                           VIKING II MODULATOR BIAS ADJUSTMENT

Bias for the 807 modulators should read 60 to 80 Ma resting current on the
multimeter in the MOD with the audio gain turned to zero position. If it does
not, first check the 6AL5 bias rectifier tube. 80 Ma is the preferred reading.

Second, check the adjustment of the tap on R-13 which is nearest to the
center of the chassis. DANGER! HIGH VOLTAGE. Disconnect primary power and
discharge HV before making this adjustment.

If you get close with this adjustment but it is not right on, you can adjust
R-30.

If there is still a problem, check C-12 and 13. Check for the following
voltages on the X-21 terminal strip: Front terminal: -80V, Second terminal from
the front: -25V, Third terminal from the front: - 40V. These readings taken
with a 20K ohms per volt analog meter.

If there is still a problem, check for the proper plate voltage on the 6AL5.
Also, check the 807s to be sure they are OK.

Again: DANGER! HIGH VOLTAGE. Be sure to disconnect the power cable and
discharge the HV before working around the plate caps of the modulators or finals
and when working under the chassis.

73,

John, W4AWM
