If I might add a footnote to what W8UT, Al Parker said:
The Vintage SSB group has been on 14.293 MHZ usb for at least eleven, maybe
twelve years. I was not present to personally observe what happened blow by
blow, but some group that was operating on 14.295 MHZ left. Keeping in mind,
they were on 14.295 and the Vintage SSB group was operating on 14.293. Not
an issue, as the Vintage SSB group was operating on Sunday afternoon on
14.293 long before the group parked on 14.295. It is not that 'we' moved in
and crowded them, the exact opposite!
I took on the NCS duties for the Hallicrafters Net in March of 1999, after
the first two NCS operators quit.
This is "not" a racial statement, so let's not go there. The next group to
occupy 14.295 was Black. The NCS was in Louisiana and beamed north.
Unfortunately right at my Mosley TA-33, which was pointed 83W, due south,
right at him. We tried to get them to move up 500 Hz and we offered to drop
down 500 Hz to 14.2925, but they refused. We were told to move, as they had
no intentions of doing so. Well, we did drop down to 14.292 MHZ for the HCI
Net, both in a good faith effort in the hopes they would cooperate and to
minimize the extreme QRM their stations generated. They did not move.
The Vintage SSB group now operates on 14.2925 MHZ in an effort to work with
another Net that occupies the same time frame. I believe the other group is
on 14.2895 Mutual cooperation can work wonders!
I do not know when the Heathkit Net first joined the Vintage SSB group. I do
know that the Vintage SSB group is about twelve to fourteen years old. So
the frequency of 14.293 MHZ was well established as where to go to show off
your vintage gear and said Net was there before "any" of the groups on
14.295
All three are excellent Nets, well run, have tremendous support, enjoy
terrific participation, even when the propagation is absent! The faithful
still show and glow!
