I said I would never again restore another Viking Ranger after doing four of them but one came along two weeks ago for almost nothing so I took it in. Never say never!
After doing all the typical VFO and audio mods including those wonderful 6550's, plus solid stating the HV and LV supplies I am ready to install a PTT relay to finish the elctrical part of the restoration.
Then I got to thinking about "quiet switching" and the potential of using a solid state relay with the supply voltage resistored down to 24V and not install the usual 3PDT 120 Vac relay which clicks and clacks. OK, OK, I know it's a stretch but anyone out there in Ranger Restoration land ever try it and if so what was your experiance?
No more Rangers after this one!
