I have a similar (cheap) lamp of this type. The transformer buzzes like
a 6-foot long bumblebee and drives me nuts. The box it's in is sealed
and I haven't been able to figure out how to fix it.

If I were buying another one I'd go with the XYL to her fabric store and
get one with a 'true-color' lamp (my color vision is poor and needs all
the help it can get). And I would make them plug a sample in and run it
for a while to see what noises it makes.
