I built one in 1957 to use with my Globe Chief 90. I used a Stancor
C1001, which was 10 Hy at 110 mA I think. The "idling" current was
way below that, and I used it for about 6 months with no problems. Used
it to talk with the 75M mobiles in the afternoon after school, (the
"two-meter" band of the 50's,) and they were all very complementary
about my audio. They were all using BC-696's and Multi-Elmac 67's.
