Thank for all the help and encouragement!
Here's where I'm at. The SX-42 works well on Bands 1 and 2 and very well on
Band 3.
However, it is extremely weak on Band 4 (15-30 mHz). By extremely weak, I
mean that
in the early evening I can get only 3 or 4 stations weakly on that band. I
have
replaced all the paper caps and out-of-spec resistors in, on, under, behind
and
near the bandswitch. Since Band 3 works, that shows that the 1st RF stage is
working properly.
I have noticed a wire attached to the side of the fourth bandswitch wafer
from the
front. It's about 1 inch long and I can't figure where that should go. I have
tried
it on all bandswitch lugs within a 1-inch radius but it has not improved Band
4
performance.
Any ideas? How should I troubleshoot this in a logical manner? I find the
entire
bandswitching system extremely confusing and difficult to troubleshoot.
