Although the Swapmeet says "Saturday" you really need to show up Friday
afternoon (as always). The Temple, Tx ARC again did an outstanding job
and loosened up the hours somewhat. There were even people with
campers/motor homes out there enjoying each other's company on Thursday.
The overall attendance/traffic looked to be a little down from previous
years (my assessment, no facts) but there were still plenty of deals to
be had, and plenty of buying and selling if the price was right. There
were enough sellers and buyers to keep everyone busy and since sellers
kept arriving you never knew what great deals were out there.
There was a great abundance of military fiberglass stackable poles (each
about 4ft long). I must have seen about 75 for sale in groups of six.
Apparently they were all from a salvage yard in Lampasas, Tx that went
belly up. I saw one set of five steel 5ft section stackable poles that
sold for $35. There was a T-195/R-392 combo with FSK unit, antenna
system, and a couple more similar matching accy units, all the cables,
and the whole AC power source (heavier than the 195/392 combo)
......really NICE condition. He was asking $1700 to start Friday, many
lookers, Saturday it was "Make Offer", a couple of $x00 offers, no sale,
he's taking it to Arkansas. The normal mix of ARC-5s in "OK" condition
for $20. R-444/APR-4Y for $20. ID-60/APA-10 for $20. Good ART-13 for
$220. Not much other military gear was seen ....some radar stuff, the
usual BC-221s, and some not identified by me.
Richard was making the usual rounds and had his pickup half loaded by
Friday evening. He had one exceptional looking Viking Ranger and many
many more nice looking boatanchors in his pickup.
Hallicrafters S-40B for $25, two SX-111s for $100 total, many of the
smaller Heathkit linears for around $300-$400, homebrew linear (2-813s)
for $150, many, many gell cell batteries, KWM-2A for $600, two Collins
30L1 for $700 each, CP-1 for $150, several Collins 75A3s and A2s, boxes
and boxes of small parts for cheap prices.
Only saw one RC helicopter ...usually there are more RC items. Quite a
number of tube vendors and a good selection. And, of course, the usual
abundance of Yaesu, Kenwood, Icom.
No homebrew receivers were seen, but that's not to say they were not
there.
