Back in the 60's when I was studying for my novice test, the CW 
instructor was a carpenter, and in order to slow his bug down enough to 
send code to us beginners, he simply used a tool of his trade:

These clamps are fastened to each edge of a carpenters framing square 
for ease in marking angles for rafters, stairs, etc.  They're still a 
pretty cheap and good-looking bug weight substitute.
