We had the same sort of issues in a computer room that "some" 
*brilliant* Management type would look "NICE" carpeted.

It indeed DID *look* nice with the plush carpet.  BUT - RS-232 ports are 
VERY sensitive to static electricity.

We overcame it with liquid fabric softener mixed equal part with water - 
sprayed the carpet about once a week.
