When I was based in Port Moresby PNG we heard it loud and clear.
We also heard it on the Aircraft HF frequencies  on occasion.
It was not a big problem to us due to the fact we used SELCAL and only 
heard it when we were ding donged and came up on frequency to answer the 
call or where we made the call for a position report. Might cause us 
trouble 2 out of ten times.
But it was there full bore at the QTH in Moresby in 79 and till mid 80 
when our contract was completed.
