[Boatanchors] Join Saturday HCI 40 Meter Net!

Please join us on Saturday March 4th for the HCI 40 meter net. The pre-Net
portion will commence at 12:45 PM EST, (1745 UTC). However I will be on the
air at 12:30 PM EST blowing the cobwebs out of the antennas and smog
blotches off the low hanging clouds. Join me early if you are in the area.

The Net proper will begin at 1:00 PM EST, (1800 UTC).

The frequency will be 7.280 MHZ lsb +/- for key clicks, mike splatter and
one of the 265 individuals who select this frequency to tune up their
transmitters, amplifiers, automobile engines, violins and who knows what all
on. Why 7.280? It is not the middle of the phone band. It isn't the middle
of anything I can think of! Why do they tune up here? They key the
transmitter and whistle into the mike, say "Hello" in more ways than I
dreamed were possible, send some CW, forget they have the VOX on and pass
some gas that sounds like a freight train rumbling through your Ham Shack,
leave the TX keyed for several minutes while they fiddle with the 'load'
knob on the rig and who knows what all! As long as it takes some of these
guys to tune their rig, one wonders if they are using a manual and are very
slow readers or taking short naps between steps. What are these guys using
for finals anyhow? It is a wonder the tubes do not melt the rig down into a
puddle on the floor!

Here is hoping to hear many of you tomorrow. So be there and let's keep
those wonders that still go glow in the dark lit up and limber. Besides, it
is fun to watch the utility companies electric useage meter spin. Ever put a
permanent magnet against the glass of one of them? I would not know
personally, but I have heard that it is like stopping time without hitting
the old Timex with a five pound sledge hammer.
