Group,
After much thought and fiddling around I finally had to surgically remove the
outer bakelite knob. The three screws that held the knob on could not be coaxed
out. This was an older model with only one set screw.
Once I had that removed I was able to wedge out the knob with some shim stick
behind it. I then used a drift and with a couple of whacks the knob came off.
Yup, the shaft was a mess. I was able to remove the burnishes on the shaft and
in the knob with emery paper.
The chassis was real filthy. I used a toothbrush and some automotive hand
cleaner to degunk the chassis. I then hosed it down ad dried it in the Florida
sun.
Toight I'll start recapping and replacing resisiors.
I need to locate the bakelite tuning knob, a meter scale, a National radio
decal and that little pointer above the dial.
