[Boatanchors] weak oscillator?

Folks,
Three of my general coverage radios exhibit the same nasty =
characteristics.
Any ideas what I am looking for?
When tuning on the high band or two higher bands on one radio, the =
reception
on the low frequency end of the dial is weak or non existent in the last
portion. The high end reception appears good.
All components appear to check out OK. Alignment and calibration appear =
OK.
Even checking inductance with a wand, all appears OK.
However, when checking oscillator output level, I find that the =
oscillator
output level starts to trail off when approaching the low end of the =
dial
and it actually ends up less than 1/4 the level at the high frequency =
end.
On one radio on band 3 of 4 (4 being the high band which works fine) the
oscillator actually stalls about 1 Meg from the low end.
I have checked grounds on the tuning cap sections and all appears good =
(less
then 0.2 ohms).
Now what might I be looking for? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
