[Boatanchors] Link coupling?

Stephen, link coupling can be harder to set up.
There are a lot more articles out there that help you with
tried-and-true component values for an HF PI network final.
Perhaps that is why it seems easier. Bandswitching is a lot easier to set up with a
PI-network.
I had an ELDICO TR75 transmitter at one time. It used a 1625
final, I think, with link coupling plus an extra coupling coil behind
a supposed TVI shield(!) - well, I never could get more than about
16 watts out of the thing, and so I just converted it very simply to
a PI network adding a different (larger) loading cap.
Right away I could easily get 30-35 watts from the same
transmitter and had loads of fun making contacts, mostly on
40m CW with it.
Now THAT was a cool boatanchor!
Some folks LOVE link coupling. Personally I don't!
I am sure we all have different experiences though.
