[Boatanchors] Need Design Ideas for Test Bench Construction

Bob, I wonder if we can get a quantity discount on those carts. I was
thinking the same as you but
again as you I figured I would need a large quantity to cover all the
projects in progress (or lack
thereof).
My last bench was built of 2x8s and 2x6s. Built in a corner of the garage.
One leg about 10 feet
long and the other about 6. 36 inches deep and 12 inch shelves starting up
about 17 inches from
the surface to the ceiling the full length of the bench/s. I covered it with
1/4 inch masonite which
like the carpet was replaceable when needed.
The height above the floor was normal desk top height because I hate normal
bench height and
either standing or trying to ride one of those wild roller coaster bench
chairs. Just a matter of
preference.
The bench scoffed at multiple SP600s and R390s and B&W5100s at the same
time. Just didn't
care.

The HEAVY DUTY roll cart off the bench is probably the best idea especially
with multiple projects
going, awaiting parts, paperwork etc.

My preference is for a deeper bench also, but Steve's point is valid. If
space permits, you might consider a simple roll-around cart big enough
to comfortably support the unit under repair, which can then be moved
adjacent to the bench and oriented as required. This keeps the
benchtop proper open for test equipment, tools, and for detail work.
Only problem is, if your ability to actually *finish* projects is no
better than mine, you'll need a whole fleet of 'em!
