Before you publically accuse this Ham of a crime, you better stop and think.
What if the elderly Ham is mistaken? What if he sold it thirty years ago and
has forgotten? He has not been in that basement for how long? Anybody,
including his new care taker could have taken it! That is, "IF" he even had
one anymore to steal. There is way too much gray area here to starting a
lynching as several of you are doing.
I am "not" accusing John, but how do we know that he is not the one who took
it? Everyone is suspect in a situation like this. But again, first the
existence of the SX-88 must be proven! People forget, especially at his age
and with his assorted health issues.
You guys have all but convicted a man of doing a crime he could go to jail
for, and frankly so could you for defamation of character and a lot of other
reasons! Before you start pointing the finger Mr. King, you better do some
research and be damn sure the alleged thief, really is!
I am totally blind and I know all about having people steal, or try to steal
things, but frankly, it does not happen all that often. However, it does
happen and it has happened to me. Anything is possible. This elderly man may
be absolutely correct, then again, he may be absolutely incorrect too.
Before you start passing a verdict, get THE FACTS! Al Waller, K3TKJ does not
want a lawsuit against QTH.NET for accusing a person of a serious crime
whether the man is innocent or he is guilty. This is against all list
policy! If you want to help, then assist the elderly man in getting the
facts, work with his family, his friends etc. But first, get the elderly
man's permission and consent. You are helping nobody by convicting a Ham of
a crime with zero evidence to support the allegations.
Get the facts John King. Then you can truly help this man and justice will
be served.

>>Today, I bought a pretty good looking SX 28 and
>>matching speaker from a very Old ham. The speaker
>>still has a red tag from Hallicrafters hanging on the
>>voice coil.
>>
>>The old ham is 90 years old and has the remnants of
>>several Radio and TV businesses he had. He has many
>>new tubes and much test gear. I bought a military
>>TV2 tube tester along with the SX 28 set-up. I gave
>>him exactly what he asked for them and DID NOT try to
>>get them for less than he was asking. I paid a fair
>>price.
>>
>>The sad thing is that he isn't ambulatory due to very
>>crippling Rheumatoid Arthritis and the complications
>>of other illnesses and old age. He keeps most of his
>>gear in a basement and he told me he has a
>>Hallicrafters SX 88 as well as other pieces of gear. I
>>went to the basement with his caretaker to get the SX
>>28 and there was no SX 88!!!
>>
>>I told him upon returning to his bedroom/shack/shop
>>that I saw NO SX88!!!!! He was very disturbed and then
>>told me the story of a Ham who came down from Missouri
>>and bought specific pieces of radio gear from him. He
>>later discovered that a large box of NEW 6L6 tubes was
>>missing and believed that the ham from Mo. had stolen
>>them. He was not physically able to go with him to the
>>basement and had no personal attendant at the time so
>>the visiting Ham was able to take things that were not
>>part of the deal. He and I are now convinced that the
>>MISSING SX 88 went to Mo. with the "Thieving Ham" from
>>Missouri. This is a sad commentary on the state ham
>>Radio, if this is in fact the situation. I felt very
>>sorry for this 90 year old ham because someone really
>>ripped him off.
>>
>>If you have seen a Hallicrafters SX 88 hit ebay or the
>>classifieds from Missouri, I would like to know any
>>particulars about the advertiser. Please help me keep
>>a lookout for SX 88s coming on the market, especially
>>from Missouri or surrounding states. I doubt we will
>>ever catch the guy, but it doesn't hurt to keep
>>looking. Your vigilant attention will be greatly
>>appreciated. Thanks and 73, John, K5PGW
