Tobe was in the picture well before the Radio Shack store was present even
as an idea! Bill worked for him Jack, the partnership happened later when
Bill was offered $10,000 in 1933 to work for a different company. This was
BIG money in the thirties, especially when one considers the united States
was in a very deep economic depression. This was roughly triple what he was
being paid by Tobe, by the way! There was no way Tobe could come even
somewhat close to matching it.
Tobe knew that the reason he was successful was because of Bill Halligan,
and if he lost Bill, his business would take a possibly fatal nosedive into
a sea of red ink! As it was Bill who made Tobe, not the other way around.
Tobe traveled and brought home the parts, Bill took it from there.
Now who in their right mind would turn down triple the wages and the
potential the other job offered for advancement? A brilliant man of
principal with the vision to see the future and recognize what was going to
be, named William Halligan! Bill had a plan already formed in his mind. Tobe
was buying the best transformers, heavy duty capacitors, chokes etc. from
European manufacturers. Bill was going to need a dependable and quality
minded supplier of these top quality components to do what he had in mind.
He offered to stay with Tobe at his current wages, provided Tobe made him an
equal partner plus a few other considerations. Tobe knew that his business
was where it was because of the dynamic and personable Bill Halligan and
trusted Bill to not cut his throat or do any dirty dasterdly deed that
would ruin Tobe. So the partnership came to pass.
You can learn additional details about this, and much much more, by watching
and listening to the one of a kind live video interview of Bill Halligan,
W9AC done by Dr. Max De Henseler, HB9RS on November 18, 1983. Available now
as part of the Historic Halligan Radio Project I am now offering to
non-commercial interested parties. There is also more about the Boston Radio
Shack store on the CD that accompanies this copyrighted DVD, reproductions
of newspaper stories and photos about the move down the street of the first
Radio Shack store! Additionally, the Two CD Audio Set that is shipping as we
speak contains a rare live over dinner discussion between Bill Halligan, Max
De Henseler and the XYL of Max, the warm and loveable Renate. Recorded at a
Cleveland, Ohio restaurant in September of 1981 with a cassette recorder
hidden among the flowers in the table's centerpiece! So if you do not have
your copies of these exclusive and absolutely historically priceless
treasures, then sit upon the Hallicrafters HT-41 HF amplifier and it will
'light your fire OM!', send you direct to the home page of the HCI web site
to the link titled "New Stuff", then locate the link for the HHRP - Historic
Halligan Radio Project, click Mr. Mouse and enjoy what you now see.
The store grew out of a growing concern on the part of Bill Halligan about a
future for the constantly growing mountain of parts that kept accumulating
on the fllor! Suggestions were made, ideas considered, a plan formulated by
Bill Halligan and the rest is now ... Well, it is history, but you will have
to bribe me with token bars of .999% fine gold bullion to get more details!
Isn't Capitolism wonderful? (LOL!)
Back to the DVD production dungeon, CD creation cave and graphics generation
facility, AKA the former home office for the "Sixth Dimension Of Magic"
where retired chubby contented Rabbits waddle instead of hop, Petunia the
show stealing trained stunt Skunk sulks in front of her satellite RX with
high definition LCD display watching Animal Planet' inside her
atmospherically secure air purification bubble and Duane's assortment of
magical wands wait, wonder and hope to one day soon split the stage air
asunder again with a loud concussion, streaking balls of real fire that soar
over the heads of the audience, a puff of florescent pink smoke and a shower
of irredescent glow in the dark confetti raining down like ... Sigh. Sorry,
that video is not included!
