I don't know what happened to Roebuck, he must of went to the same place
that the catalog went. As a kid I use to love those catalogs. As some of
you may remember, you could order just about everything from Sears and
Roebuck. Dynamite, a Henry J automobile, Jim Walter houses just to name a
few. In fact I was lead to believe that babies were ordered from Sears,
understandable when you viewed those baby layouts, with diapers, belly bands
and baby. Now we know it is the stork that delivers those babies. Oh yes,
don't forget the baby chickens. I can imagine the red tape now for buying
dynamite which was used for removing stumps and other farm work.

Hi, I am a retired EE and work at the local Sears about 20 hr/wk for 'tool
and radio play money'. I have to say that the amount of items stolen from our
store is just unbelievable! This, combined with the policy of free
'replacement' of hand tools will be putting a nail in Sears coffin in the not to distant
future. Don't get me wrong, if you have a wrench or screwdriver that breaks
or wears out, fine. However, we have a BUNCH of people that bring in tools by
the bucket and want them replaced because they are dirty or rusty. Sure,
there's a bunch of mark-up involved with this stuff, but these guys buy these
tools at flea markets for a few cents and turn around and sell them for almost
list price. They also have the ba--s to brag about it.
However, this is changing. Tape measures must have specific things wrong
before we'll exchange them. (a guy brought in a half a bucket of tape measures
that his carpenters had sawed the ends off of). He went ballistic when the
store Mgr told him, "sorry we don't cover that type of failure".
These same people can't understand why an increasing number of our tools
come from the same country that Wal-Mart is making rich....China!
