Hi Bill,
I'll jump in, but I'm sure there'll be more opinions (all are worth
what you pay for them).
Looking bk in history, Hammarlund recommended using disc ceramics
everywhere when replacing the BBOD's, and they did so in SP-600's after
somewhere in the 17,000's ser. no.s About the same vintage as the
75A-2/3 R-388/51J-3's.
I do a lot of SP-600 work, as well as some R-388's. If it's for
somebody else, and they have a preference, I will use polypropelyne Orange
Drops for coupling caps.
Sometimes I will use a new dipped silver mica, particularly in the AGC
of the R-388/etc. where there's one old mica that frequently goes leaky &
screws up the AGC.
YMMV

capacitor can be used in place of the ceramic (10,000 mmf, 350 vdc)
"dogbones" used throughout a Collins 75A-2/3 receiver as coupling caps,
etc... ceramic disk, mylar, tubular film, ??? Thanks in advance for any
recommendation, 73, Bill

I second Al's recommendation for the use of Orange Drops. However, I wonder
why you would want to replace the dogbones? I have never seen one fail my HV
test, and they have always measured 'spot on' when checked with my NIST
traceable cap bridges....
I have recapped several hundred boatanchors and if I encounter a BBOD or
"brown tur*", it gets replaced without bothering to check it's leakage. I got
buckets of them. All NFG. Why do I keep them? Just to show some of my friends
just how bad they are!
