I use the Weber Copper Caps in my vintage equipment because the current
inrush problem is addressed. The advantage of solid state rectifiers, to me, is
that they allow the power transformers to run cooler because the 5V winding is no
longer in use. No mods to the equipment is necessary, so that if I or a
future owner decides that authenticity is important, simply unplug the Copper Cap
and plug the tube back in.

When I recap a piece of vintage equipment, I routinely install a small inrush
limiter in series with the AC line cord. I don't have the specs on these, but
a seller on that auction place has them available inexpensively. They are
slightly larger than a ceramic disc capacitor. They help to cut down the
transformer "thud" when you switch the power on.
