[Boatanchors] AM bandwidth

I think a lot of the AM hysteria is unfounded. (Am I mistaken?)
Anyway, there is a "queer thinking" faction that seems to be consumed with
broadband "Hi-Fi" audio which is, actually, very non productive and
in reality "silly". To think that 9 khz isn't an adequate band for AM
is short-sighted and rather stupid, considering today's congestion on the
phone bands.
The same warped thinking is present in the "Winlink" spectrum grab.
This to satisfy the demands of the select few (mainly yachtsmen who
want Internet access via ham radio) for more spectrum space at the
expense of everyone else.
If I am wrong, I'm sorry, but from what I have been able to glean
it seems like a waste of spectrum space for a few, at the expense of all the rest
of us. (In some instances [Winlink wanting extra spectrum] aided and
abetted by the ARRL, who certainly isn't looking out for the "lesser"
of us amateurs!)

Subject: [Boatanchors] AM bandwidth

| Glad to see the replies - thank you.
|
| My intent in submitting the letter is mainly political.
|
| That is, I asked for special consideration for Amplitude Modulation as it
| seems to me that AM may get less 'respect' in the future than present.
|
| I believe that FCC rules will allow AM to have the same bandwidth as used at
| present.
|
| Nevertheless, I wanted to put some heat and noise from a Pro-AM direction to
| let the FCC folks know there some opinionated AM'ers working the bands who do
| not want any future restrictions....they were talking about it this go around.
|
| And...while I was at it...thought I'd ask for more "respect"...namely AM-use
| only segments so as to diminsh the AM/SSB elbowing...and add some of that
| Pro-AM heat.
|
| The bottom line...we Hams get only what we fight for ...I engage when folks
| start THINKING about taking something away...
