Hi Greg,
There's a raft of info out there on Viking xx mods for audio, etc. Do
a google on something like "viking Ranger audio" and I think you'll get a
good start. There's some AM fone sites that specialize in that stuff.
I've been thru it recently for my Viking 1 which I've just got on the air.
There was a ref. to I think AES having an interstage xfmr, Thordarson
#20A14, that outperforms the stock one in the Viking 1 & 2, and the
Ranger, Valiant, etc. used very similar modulator ckts.
A good 3 pt series of articles in ER in 1998 specifically on the Viking
2, but applicable elsewhere. I've done much of what's there, incl.
regulated bias & screen voltages on the modulator tubes, pr of 807's.
Haven't popped for that interstage xfmr yet.
I've had the Viking 1 on the air for a week or so, had QSOs on 160, 75
& 40m AM.
