Why do you want to do any of this at this late date?  OK the mixer MIGHT 
help, but nothing is going to make an SX-28 into a 21st Century radio.  
.  I wouldn't mess with the rest of it, especially that oscillator 
circuit.  I trust you've completely recapped the old girl.  You're 
wasting your time if you haven't.
